Who Is Rory McNeil? (And who cares?)
I was born in London to Scottish parents. I started my life in window coverings staining 2" wood blind slats to order. Back in the 70s wood slats didn't come pre-finished. It was a family business based in Scotland and I soon graduated to stapling roller shade fabrics onto wood rollers, the very height of technology:-)
Eclipse Blinds in Scotland (Now an HD company) was founded by my father and Uncle, Jim and Bob McNeil respectively. By the time I was 20, I was working in the newly formed export department. In 3 short years we were selling fabrics and components to 36 countries around the world. My favorite job during this time was setting up a manufacturer of vertical and venetian blinds in Egypt.
In 1990 I set up the US subsidiary in Miami Fl and sold roller and vertical fabrics to fabricators nationwide. 1993 the company sold and I moved to California with my wife Rosa and our family. We set up TechStyles in Oxnard California initially distributing vertical blind PVC and then set up a workroom to produce IllumaSheer and RomaSheer products. We also Introduced Panel Track hardware to fabricators and a unique roman shade system called RomaTrack. We were also the first to introduce 2" Routless Ladders and manufacturing techniques to US fabricators in 1999.
In 1994 I discovered the internet and began connecting with other window covering folks online and thus Window-Pro was born. I used to manage and answer all the email myself and we would fill up a couple of AOL chat rooms with as many as 40 folks chatting about window coverings.
The recession of beginning 2008 brought tremendous challenges and the bankruptcies of our two largest customers, namely 3 Day Blinds and Prestige Window Fashions. We closed TechStyles in 2012 and over the next few years I opened a small workroom TechShading while at the same time managing inventory and sales for a Spanish company called Sistemas Delfin. I eventually accepted an offer to run their US business.
In 2019 Rosa and I moved to Orlando, Rosa was setting up a Brazilian shade manufacturer and I started my own company Shading & Automation Solutions (SAS), distributing interior and exterior profiles and components and representing Ball Software's Blindata window covering manufacturing software.
In 2020 I decided it was time to "rebrand" Window-Pro as WindowShading.Pro to better represent the nature of our industry. You can reach me anytime by email, text, instant message, Linkedin and by calling my mobile or business phone below.
